The year 2010 is only a few days away. Remember the anxiety and even panic as we approached the year 2000? Some people predicted the end of the world or at least a chaotic apocolypse as all the worlds' computers began to fail. The stock exchange would be no more and all investments would be lost. Power systems would fail and patients would die in hospitals as operating rooms went black and ventilator magchines stopped. All means of electronic communication was going to cease and there would be no transportation of food. Some people even stashed away caches of food and water in their cellars while others traded their paper money for tangible gold and negotiable silver.
It seems silly now, doesn't it? Every moment is a gift from God and it is only we who are counting those moments in days, weeks, months and years. God has no timetable because in eternity there is no time. But, we're here in time and so we count.
It seems futile to look to the past. The future isn't here, either. The moment is what God gives us and this moment is great. Jesus said that no one knows the day nor the hour of the last day.
We will know the instant that last day happens, not before. Meanwhile, I do think we should give thanks for the new year but why wait for a new year? Give thanks for now.
